Here is a question I have, why doesn’t the computer manufacturing industry make IDE cable that doesn’t start falling apart when you move it around a lot. Has anyone else gotten bad IDE cable, or had some go bad? IDE cable sucks, if i had the money i would use SCSI.

If it were feasible, I'd build an entire computer out of USB 2.0 channels and wireless links. Screw this 40 - 80 wire connector crap.

There's a project underway to move IDE to a serial based link, which would require a much thinner wire,

www.serialATA.org

But yes, having all the disks connected up via USB2 would fucking rock.

And why not go for Firewire 2.0 at 800mbps which already support 400 mpbs hard drives?

Two words: Fibre Channel. Possibly the most kick-ass interface ever developed. Way cooler than SCSI. And yes, you can locate the actual drives 5km away from you computer (if that's the kind of thing you're into).
