This could actually spread out across a few of the forums (classroom, rants, this one), but because it all revolves around computer's I'll stick it here. Might be kinna long to, so be warned...I remember posting before about how my motherboard got fucked up and I had to replace it. So you have a good idea of that much of the story. I went to the place today where they did the testing on the board, with my dad because I have no ride no money, and few other things, and they said they would have to replace the board with soemthing else, because they didn't have another board like the one I already had. I told my dad if anything I atleast need a new case, which is totally true because my old one sucked. He agreed ( ). So I was going to get this ok mobo, but about half an hour after we got there (we had to stand around for a while because they had to put everything back together and crap), they said it turned out they had one more board just like mine. I didn't really care, because that meant I'd get it replaced on the warrenty and crap, and if I said "no, I want the new one" then we'd have to pay for it and all this other BS. So, I say "yeah fine", and so they say it'll take them about half an hour to put my CPU and new memory in there to make sure it works. Me and my dad drive out to mcdonalds real quick to get lunch, and when we get back we grab the new case and all the other stuff, and my dad starts bitching because he said we shouldn't have to pay for the techsupport stuff because "their motherboard went bad". They manager said "if you brought in the just the motherboard, you wouldn't have to pay. Because you didn't buy a full system from us, and built it yourself, labor fees are not included in the warrenty" and my dad kept bitching about it. I agreed with the manager and was pretty close to just screaming "pay the man, asshole!" but I knew he'd get pissed... So he ends up paying the fee, I feel like a total ass because of his idiocy. He also said "Well, I'm never shopping here again", which he says a lot, and every place he says that he doesn't go back to. Pisses me off because I really like that place and they do good work. Get back in the car, and he says "well, the guy was right, I was just giving him a hard time" like I agreed with him... Anyways, I get home, get everything together, boot up, and Windows starting trying to reinstall the drivers for all my hardware. I let it go for a little bit, and it froze up. I rebooted, and it kept rebooting before it could even start windows. I tried to reinstall 98, but it froze up during the "setting up plug and play" stuff. So I stuck my harddrive in my linux box, copied all the important stuff off it to that computer, formatted, stuck it back in my windows box, and reinstalled. I've been setting it all back up, and I got most my software reinstalled... so anyways, thanks for reading about my shitty day, and if you got something to say about it please do... once I get a couple more things set back up on here, I'm gonna go to sleep... I need it... ------------------ Net Syndrome - http://www.netsyndrome.net/ Spydir Web - http://www.netsyndrome.net/spydirweb/ This message has been edited by Spydir on July 06, 2001 at 09:07 PM

I feel for ya. When I first got a computer with a semi-decent modem (a 33.6, but hey, you use what you've got, especially when you're broke), I spent HOURS on end trying to find a free ISP, since my dad is too cheap to pay for it. Then, when I got my new computer this past August, I taught myself to set up a small network at home and *cough* share a 56k. Look, I didn't want to do it, but I'm stuck with it. I taught myself this hoping that *maybe*, just maybe, my dad would pay for Cable or DSL. Lo and behold, almost a year later, I sit here telling my tale with no Cable, no DSL, but with a shared 56k connection. I went through all the trouble of buying everything I needed for the network, setting it up, and trying to get it to actually work. What do I get? Griping. Whenever my dad uses this, he goes, "It's so slow! When I use it at work, this page loads like *snaps fingers* that!" !@#$\%^&*. *deep breath*He's my dad, and I really shouldn't be complaining, but COME ON! ------------------ <º(((><

my dad is a jerk too. at least yours pays for your stuff. when we got our cable internet, i had to set up our network, and my dad was willing to pay for a router, but we couldnt buy one with a switch integrated into it, oh no, we had to buy a single port one and use MY hub that i paid MY 40 dollars for that i bought back when my allowance was 10 dollars a week (thats about a month's work for me if you dont like doing math). we recently had a powersurge, and MY hub got fucked up. i dont know what the problem with it was, because lights were still on, but i guess no one was home, because when we replaced it, the network booted back up and everything works perfect now. heres the problem. we did buy a surge protector so this wouldnt happen again, and my parents did pay for the new hub. but wait. what about my months worth of work?!? now i have no hub! a fucking month down the drain, because my dad was too fucking cheap to buy a good router in the first place. you know what my parents said? "we buy you other stuff, so its really fair that we dont replace your hub" i was forced into letting them use my hub, because "you want to be able to use the internet too, right?" so not only did i have to set it up, do all the work, lose my months worth of work in the process. i have to fix it when it breaks (which is more often the actual cable service than the router, but its hard to tell with the piece of shit router we have), and all i get out of it is some low grade cable access. there are people who do this on a larger scale and get 6 figures for it. im getting what, 20 dollars a month? (1 out of 2 computers on the service)sorry for stealing your rant spydir. ------------------ quote: Originally posted by Dark Knight Bob: does anyone not notcie that sithee isnt actually talking out of his ass like a lot of people here
