did you make sure your last scsi device was terminated correctly? Or if you card has termination on it. if they are both on you will have whack problems.. Make sure the last scsi device on the cable is termintated.. or some cases termination ON

i tried to install a sun 36 gig drive on my dell, with this little scsi adaptor thing. every time i tried to boot up, after detecting the drive (and sometimes thinking the 1 drive was 16, taking up all of the SCSI ID's), it would just scroll

FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

like crazy. i fiddled with some jumpers to try to change the ID number and some other settings but no go. so i took it out. now, the first hard drive that was in there goes

01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01

like crazy. no matter what i do it does this. wtf could cause it? it happens right after detecing the scsi devices on bootup.

is the termination determined by the jumpers on the hard drive or the way the cable is plugged in?

Termination is generally determined by the jumpers on the drive; there should be a "termination" jumper on the drive. Failing that, there may be a terminator plugged into the last slot on your chain, providing termination, and that's good too.

Your chain has to be terminated at *both* ends(unless I'm *really* getting rusty so you'll need to leave termination on on your card, if you have no external devices.
