I'm dead serious. Here's my logical thought process on this...

I upgrade to kernel 2.4 series, computer throws a fit when trying to load usb modules... I ignore and just say "I'll wait a little and try some stuff later". Netscape starts to spit out crap when I try to load my newsserver stuff (keeps say about 2/3's of the messages are unread everytime I load, and won't download new messages). Attempt to install new Usenet clients, all install fine but fuck up somewhere along the line (won't download newsgroup lists from server, crashes out of the blue, won't hold user info). PPP sessions die after 30min-2 hours. Normally, it dies after 12 hours due to my ISP, but reading over /var/log/messages pppd is dying on my end prematurally. I'm pretty sure it's not it's pulling a Windows and bitching about being on to long (4 days) because this computer has been up for much, much, much longer then that before.

I swear... it hates me... I try to be nice to it. I bought it a new, very room case, but no. It won't wear it... I install nice programs and things, but no, it won't use them...

that or it's just to late, and I also think my mental disorders are kicking up again because I'm out of school and have nothing to do all day, plus I kinna lost need to withhold them during school and now that I'm out it's all... shit, I'm rambling or something...

uhhhh... ummm... *help me*

slackware 7.1 (quasi-current). I've been considering debian for a while, cuz apt-get is just the shit (slackUp -ua works fine for now ).

I think it was just that it was really late, slight lack of sleep, to much caffine, and some odd food I've never heard of but ate anyway was getting to me... But reading over that, it actually makes a little sense. I mean, all that stuff is happening...

Computers, by nature, hate living things.

I don't believe in stereotypes. I prefer to hate people on a much more personal level.

Try running slackware-current. You have to download the individual files from an ftp and make bootdisks, cause there is no iso available. I've been running slack-current for a long time, with no problems. Recently, it added the 2.4.5. kernel, which should help solve your usb problems. slack 7.1 is very dated.

Also, don't use nutscrape, which is too old and klunky to use well. It is helpful to have it installed on the system for the plugins and just in case it is needed, but konqueror and mozilla have advanced enough to full-time browsers. I personally prefer konqueror.

sorry for the late responce... I'm just bored and guess I forgot to before.

to the best of my knowledge, an iso is made every Wendesday of slackware-current. Atleast that's what it says on www.slackware.com, slackware forums, my LUG's FAQ, and a bunch of other places... I've been running 2.4.5 since release, and I still get the same errors.

I use konqueror some, but I stick with netscape because mozilla based browsers are just a little to slow and the lack of dhtml support kinna ticks me off. Plus I like to have a bunch of windows up and mozilla starts to slow an entire system once you hit 3 windows.

What's this about slack-current ISO images? I had no idea that they existed. I wasn't able to find anything on the slackware.com site, so if you could point me in the correct direction it would be great. Downloading one file would definately be better than downloading several hundred.
