Gotta brag. Just got a new system ... had to sell off the old XP1900 monster due to financial issues.
After much computer/electronics dealing, and enduring nearly a month of mockery of my crappy system from my roommates, it's time for vengeance.
CPU - Athlon XP 2000, running at 2083MHz (12.5x166) MBD - Shuttle AK31 rev3.1 RAM - 4x 256MB Crucial PC2700 DDR HDD - 2x IBM 120GXP in RAID 0 VID - MSI geForce4 Ti4200 128MB @Ti4600 speeds
Well, roommates ... <The New Guy> who's the biotch NOW? </The New Guy>

You're kidding right? You have to deathstars? In RAID 0? bwahahahaha
Your system won't last more than 3 months before one of your HD gives away. Since you're on RAID 0, you have absolutely no redundancy (the 'R' in Redudant Array of Independant Disk -- RAID), your data will be lost and you will be screwed.

The 75GXP is the true "Deathstar" not the 120GXP ... I have friend who've had these running for years and no problems.
Know what the secret is? Cooling. Most of the "Deathstar" failures were related to overheating.
And besides - that's just a temporary solution until I can slap an ATA133 RAID system in there.

The 3 latest Deskstar models (75GXP,60GXP,120GXP) are deathstars. Especially the 75GXP, but the two others too. In IBM operational specifications for the two latest models, it's written that they must not work more than 300 hours a month.
It might be a good thing that IBM is retiring of the HD manufacturing market, except maybe for the MicroDrives

Damnit, you fucking bandwagon jumpers. Listen to me on these two important points.
1) The 120GXP can be run 24/7 with proper cooling. Yes, it's a high-heat drive. So cool it off.
2) IBM is NOT FUCKING RETIRING from the HD market. I don't know where the fuck you people hear this shit but it's not true. IBM is not leaving the HD scene.
Sheesh.

[sneakers] you let word get out that a bank is doing badly and pretty soon because of that information it ends up doing badly[/sneakers]
but at the end of the day IBM fucked up and they paid for it. its whats known as tough shit. if you make a crappy product you gotta expect people not to trust your sales pitches anymore.

While the multiple hairs do create a far greater surface area than a conventional heatsink, ic0n0, a rabbit still conducts heat very poorly.
That, and the damn things drop little round turds all over the chipset.
