Ok so here it is...I feel totally guilty- as is always like me.

The story goes something like this. I'm driving up I-87 (the northway) to go home from work yesterday. The Northway starts at Western Ave (which is where I park my car) That exit is obviously exit 1, I live at exit 8. On a normal day it takes me about 30 minutes to get from downtown to my car and about 30 minutes to get from my car home on I-87. So yesterday per usual I got in my car and started driving home. The minute I hit the Northway there was traffic and it didn't let up- so around exit 4 my thought was "Damn it someone better be fucking dead up there or I am gonna be fucking pissed off" and I continued to drive. It seems that when ever anything happens on the Northway (either minor or major) traffic stops for HOURS. Hot and pissed off the maxium speed I reached was about 10 miles per hour. At exit 5 I said to hell with it and figured I would get off at the next exit (6 which goes to Route 9 and by my apartment) as I am switching lanes the traffic clears and on the south side I-87 was a terrible accident- 22 year old guy died as a result of a 21 year old girl taking a flying leap over the median....I started to cry hysterically in the car I felt so bad that I had even thought someone should be dead- I had no idea. I can't escape the thought.

You strain yourself too much, take it easy- it's not like your words had any real effect.

Don't beat yourself up for that. It's not like your thoughts were the cause of that accident. Your reaction was pretty normal - humans are a species that thinks in the order "damn I am pissed off" and afterwards "what does this incident mean to other people". Don't worry about the accident being your fault - it really wasn't.

And I know this feeling of saying/thinking the wrong thing...

i remember when this stupid prick was threataning to commit suicide by jumping off the woodrow wilson bridge...backed up traffic for EIGHT FUCKING HOURS. in case you don't know, the woodrow wilson bridge is basically the only way across the potomic to get from virginia to d.c. to maryland without driving a long fucking way to the 14th street bridge. anyway the guy never jumped, so it was a huge fucking waste of resources.

I think you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. I understand how frustrating it is for things to be running slow for no valid reason (oh! We're scared of the Squirrel Hill tunnel!).

In your case, while I would feel better knowing there was a real problem ahead, I would still be very pissed off at the number of people who insist on rubber-necking during rush-hour traffic. People please, it's not your daughter out there, you can't do anything to help, just go by at a normal speed and mind your own damn business!

Hope that makes you feel better.

You would have never said it if people weren't going so slow past the accident. So don't worry about it.

Hey you never know...
On the daughter part, can't relate.. But on the you can't help part, not true.
My father stopped at a flipped car once..
He got the people out of the car... Which was also dripping gas and coulda blown at any time. You never know, he might have saved their lives..

It must be a natural reaction to stare at accident. Hell, all of us have done it at one point. Must be our macabre (sp) side coming out or something.

There is at least one accident every day on the Dual Carriageway near my house, people are used to them being there but they still go into snail mode and stare.

its not your fault the person jumped killing someone else as well. its the person who jumped who is at fault. I'd just take it all with a pinch of salt and laugh at the irony.

I mean i really feel like shouting at these people to just get it over with so the rest of us sane people can get where we're going.

I bet the last thought going through that persons mind was "oh crap i didnt mean to hurt someone else" that'll teach em to go jump off a bridge then wont it!

A guy I knew who I didn't like very much who used to tease me a lot and I wished for a lack of a better word die did in fact die I am not really very happy about it ether. It was like 7th grade or something and I was watching the news and they were talking about some kid who got hit by lightning, and as I continued to watch the news they broke in and said this kid had died from the lightning, then they showed a picture of him and his name, it was that kid I hated. I had seen this kid two day's before and I honestly didn't know what to feel and I still don't. I'm apathetic about it that’s not saying much for me but I am an honest person and I would say I was sad when I wasn’t. I feel bad for his family.
