Depends. It took about 2 days before I could get anything remotely solid in my mouth, ie, really tender chicken. It took about a week before I could eat ground beef. About another 2 weeks before chips.

I had a particularly nasty case, though. 4 impacted wisdom teeth, and one 12-year molar stuck under another tooth. The worst part was that a little fragment of molar came up about a month and a half later. I had to grab tweasers and yank it out when it came up over the period of about 2 days.

OK... that was disgusting.

At any rate, you'll probably be back to a stable state in a few days. The yellow will go away from your face. You'll stop looking like a chipmunk. Pain will go away. I just recommend not waiting until you feel pain to take drugs. Because, the ramp up of pain and ramp up of meds are not synchronous.

Something about me seems resistant to pain, cause I SWEAR I was eating just like normal 12 hours afterward (and I DID get 4 out). The only problem I had was food getting stuck under flaps of skin, and the stiches were pretty anying...

But for the average person, it'll be a few days... just make sure you use alot of ice.

Oh, and did you get the nitrous? That stuff 0wnz!!! The radio was playing the background, so it was easy to gauge exactly what my trip was doing. It was like I could listen to the radio (which sounded like the chitmunks) and see only as still "snapshot" of the dentist, or watch the detist (with trailers) and hear only a repeating beat from the radio. Hehe... gotta do that again some day

Probably it's gonna take about 4 days till you can eat more or less normally, and about a 10 days till you are wholly back to normal state. Make sure you use medication against the pain, and desinfection stuff (that's the most important). I don't know if you are playing a woodwind instrument, but if you do - plan 4-6 weeks without practising/playing (I couldn't touch my sax for about 6 weeks...).

Dude, did they give you codine? That stuff makes it all better for a few hours... It also sends you to dreamland quite fast. Don't operate any heavy machinery.

Man mine was bad. First of all my lower right tooth was turned forward and impacted. They didnt use nitrous to put me out....it was some sort of IV. They put an ekg on me to make sure I kept breathing and my heart didnt stop. And at first it amplified all my senses alot, like just before I passed out if I moved, my clothes hurt my skin. Then I was out. I went in at like 8am and I left at 3:30 pm. I got a prescription for percoset 10 (which r0x0rs) when I got home the anestesia had worn off but I just took some advil and was fine. It hurt but just dont let it bother you. It took like 2 days to get back into eating but it was cause my jaw muscles were weak. Its a fucking pain to eat peanuts and hard shit cause they stuck in the holes in my jaw. Anyways I have like 90 percoset 10s left for incase I break my neck or just get bored.

Most people do need one or more removed at some point, melk0r. I haven't yet, but i'm lucky in that I only have one wisdom tooth in my entire head. They'll have to dig it out sometime this year.
