I had the same thing happen to me. I'd never heard of it happening before, except in a Maximum PC article I had read. Didn't have to worry about the cd much cause it was some piece o' shit program, but DELL did replace my cd-rom drive.

I'm really mad (and depressed) right now. I was holding my favorite cd in my entire collection, and I thought that since it was getting old, I should make a backup of it on my computer just in case something happens to it. So I load up the cd ripping software put the cd in, tell it to start, ten seconds later, I hear a loud pop from the computer. I see the program seems stuck, so I open the cd rom drive, seeing instead of my cd, a few shattered remnants of it. The other parts were scattered inside the drive, so I also had to take that apart, and I'm having trouble putting it back together. So I'm really pissed off...and I guess that this should go into the Rants forum or something. Maybe I should buy another copy, but it was part of a set, and it would cost about ุ to buy the whole thing again...Correction: I just checked, and it would cost me ฿ +shipping to replace. goody This message has been edited by a.out on April 01, 2001 at 11:07 AM

Oh, man... Dell's attention to quality control is simply mind-boggling. I had to fix 7 or 8 of the 20 Dell Optiplexes in one of the tech rooms at my school within 2 months of receiving them.

Ok, I'll agree with ya there. Never mind the fact that they use non-standard power supplies, that's just goddamn annoying.
