Yeah, that'll work... until you die, of course. It may not be from exhaustion and heart stoppage (although possible), but it could be judgement errors in your last few hours of awake time.

First of all, I don't see why anyone would be so short on time that they would need to resort to something like that. More to the point, losing sleep for that long on a regular basis will throw your biological clock into complete chaos. You would find yourself tiring out in no time at all.

Also remember, that if for some reason you do need to pull an all-nighter, caffeine is not the best way to stay awake. Instead, you should make sure that you eat a full meal around midnight... this will keep your energy up during the night.

It's a proven fact that lack of sleep makes people less productive, not more. In fact, driving while sleep deprived for 30 hours or more is equivalent to driving drunk. If you find youself not being able to get enough sleep, also keep in mind that the sleep cycle goes in increments of 4 hours, so getting 4 hours of sleep can actually be more resting than getting 6 - 7.

I'm always amazed by people and the difficulty they have comprehending time. Sorry, no matter how you slice it, you still only have 24 hours in a day.

I'm just wondering what you mean by 'do more'. what exactly are you doing that a 24hour block can do better than a 12-18 hour block cant do?
this will help diagnosis ;]

Put it this way the longest medical test for forcing someone to stay awake was 9 days. it was about day five that hallucinations, spasms and fever started breaking out. If you start missing sleep your body doesnt get enough R.E.M sleep so it compensates by giving it to you while your awake.

The longest i've ever pushed myself for (just for a laugh)was 2 and half days i was losing balance seeing and hearing things and stuff as simple as reading was too straining to even bother with, plus it took me a good 3 days for my body clock to settle back down. its weird but lack of sleep can make you so tired that you cant actually get to sleep cos of the stess

i have heard about this.. i heard that sleeping 8 hours, awake 16 is not our natural mode, just how our society has structured it. supposedly if we stay awake 8 hours, then sleep 4, twice a day, we actually fuction a whole lot better. i would love to try this except for job and family commitments etc
