heh they probably figure that someone had to pay for it at one point, so it doesn't matter anyway.

no, they don't give a damn. I called them once to ask about educational licensing - basically it was this :

ME: "um, I have an order for twenty machines, and they're supposed to have NT workstation, but the buyer is a school and qualifies for educational licensing. We don't sell educational licenses, so the school is going to buy them somewhere else. But it will take four weeks for them to get them, and they need the machines now... is it cool if we put NT on the machines for them, and let them handle the licensing later?"

MS : "Sure, we don't care as long as you're not charging them for the OS and not giving them the license."

ME : "Nope, I'm just doing them a favor."

MS : "No problem."

My mum got me a copy of visual studio as part of the university staff licensing deal ( my computer is *cough* her home machine *cough*

So,, i go and register this on the website, and they invited me to the launch of windows 2000, presumably because i was on their database of "developers". So, i went to that. Pretty damn boring show actually.

i know EVERYONE has illegal rip off of microsoft merchandise but does anyone know of cases where microsoft has actually charged people with owning the illegal copies (i'm not talking about big companies cos thats obvious i'm talking about the regular joe although i'm not suggesting that joe does have hacks of win 98). my freind knows someone who works in the microsoft legal dept. and when she stayed round their house once she quite happily overlooked the rack of cd-writables with offics and shit marked on it. do they really give a fuck about it??

Why in god's name would they object to piracy? Pirating of microsoft products is one of the major reasons they're as big as they are now (yes yes, the main reason is b/c of IBM's marketing decision with regards to DOS...) is because of the level of proliferation of their software.

Simply put, the more people who HAVE office, the better, because it becomes an industry standard and then everyone (in business) is realistically required to buy office (same philosophy works for the OS and most of their office-related software). The bottom line is it's better for them to have a small \% of the whole damn marketplace rather than a large \% of a small segment (which is of course the point of illegally "dumping" your product).

i think whoever implemented that mice be originally used with your right hand masturbated left handed (man or woman)

see, it goes something like-
watch porn, keyboard too hard to use
make mouse. mouse good. i masturbate lefty.
i use right hand for mouse.
masturbate good.

(yes, i did make it sound neanderthal for humor)
but i mean, that is if they masturbated to porn.. or masturbated at all (war injuries?)
