I think it's rediculous that whenever someone posts an opinion that is similar to what the news broadcasts, they're automatically flamed by people who accuse them of succombing(sic) to the 'propoganda' of the US. It is possible that people can agree with the views of the majority and the media/government. I personally think it's the exact same thing, that some people jump on the bandwagon of "It was on the news, so I have to disagree." Conforming to nonconformity...

<spell check> succomb = succumb </spell check>

i don't think it's wrong to disagree with the mass media.. as long as it's what you actually believe, and not something just pulled out of your ass just for the sake of sticking your hand up there. and if you agree with what they say on tv, then that's fine too.. as long is it's really what you think.. there's enough mindless zombies walking this planet...

I agree wholefartedly.

Hundreds in San Francisco Protest for Peace: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/kpix/20011008/lo/1456_1.html

The article shows a nice slant against these people, which is refreshing. Basically, a bunch of people started protesting in San Fran against the strikes and everything else. The only rational I've ever heard against strikes is the possibility of retaliation or turning of Muslims against the US. This was not even in their message. They called the attacks "Racist". They equated bombing of SAM batteries and C&C systems to killing of thousands of civilians.

The worst part of this group is that they seem to be a group of professional protesters. They feel it their duty to protest whatever isn't popular. It bugs me to no end. They have every right to protest under free speech, and I have every right to call them idiots under free speech.

What I admire from the article is the one dude who was protesting in opposition to this group. He was out there with a placard that said: "freedom isn't free." How cool is that guy?

In my opinion, not cool at all. I'd probably agree with the protestors

I can understand why the protestors would be against this. But the objective of the military strike is not just to kill people... it was done to
1) Prove to the Taliban that the US will not back down
2) Punish them for not cooperating and for refusing to make any diplomatic agreements
3) Disrupt the stability of and hopefully overthrow the Taliban regime
4) Provide aid to the Afghan people who are oppressed by the Taliban

If it's successful, think about the consequences: the Taliban won't screw over the Afghan people anymore. So if it takes a brief (relatively) ass-kicking to promote the long-term protection of the innocent people in that country, then why not? The military is taking lots of precautions, and in some cases risks, to avoid civilian casualties (which is more than we can say for the terrorists). Freedom is not free. That has been proven time and again throughout history.
Let's say the protestors had their way and the attacks never happened... What would we do then? The US can't just be passive in this case or else we'll never make any progress. Backing down will only make things worse.

Only two replies and this is off topic. What do you people think about what was said originally?
