Good news. The Florida voting ballot was confusing, and a lot of people who should have voted Gore accidentally voted Buchannan. The recount will end Thursday. Bush might not have won Florida after all. The State News, the paper of MSU has announced that Bush won, and it certainly looks that way, but it's technically up in the air untill tomorrow.

We have 7 votes to give...if 5 went Gore that means he only has to get 5 out of Florida's 25...which is doable.

Excuse me, but Florida's 25 go to the person who has the majority of the vote in Florida. At least, that's how it works last time I checked.

Why does FL get 25 votes? How do they decide the electoral votes? Based on pop. or is it some grnadfather thing?

The votes in the electoral college are the same for each state as the number of senators and congressmen in each state, which is based on population, so essentially the electoral college is based on population. Give or take a little. Because of the nature of the electoral college system, it makes it possible for one person to win the popular and another the electoral, but only if the country is almost evenly split between two candidates as it is in this election and was in the 1960 election of JFK.
