...i stumble out of the dojo with my green belt. fucking "A"
i started off really crap fucking up everything i can usually do without even really thinking about. i think it was a combination of nerves and car sickness.
then when we stopped doing the technique and started the fighting i was ok. one bit i enjoyed the most was the attacks from behind. we were supposed to let someone attack us like them grabbing us or trying to strangle us. after the 3rd time doing an average job of fumbling about i thought "fuck this" and decided to listen for him then turn and boot the guy in the stomach i got mad props from the sensai for that one.
Quote | YES!! pre-emptive i like that |
other casualties were one of my mates with a broken tooth and another guy with a gash on his finger down to the bone where he'd punched said friend. only real surprise was them using real knives (in this case an 8" hunting knife) you don't usually get them till a bit higher up but i think sensai did it cos most of the green belts were faffing about with the wooden ones.
anywayz anyone else had any martial arts or combat experiences to speak of that were a good laugh?

I do samurai jiu-jitsu. i forget what the proper japenese name is for the style. its a mix of traditional samurai techniques based around situations where a warrior lost his sword and was faced with an armed opponent (integrating sword work and bo work) and an updated self defence style based around knife/bottle/broken bottle/chain/baseball bat type defenses.
http://www.jitsufoundation.org/using_site.htm
its not ya fancy type of martial art, we don't emphasize alot on kicking or jumping but dont frown upon people integrating it. it's an extremely nasty style in that from day one they teach you the meaning of pain not in the form of conditioning but what its like to bend someones elbow the wrong way and other assorted nastyness
you won't see many people above green who don't wear some form of support or suffer fromsome kind of ongoing injury.
also when you get to higher grades they start to teach you how to deal with other styles in case you meet some kind of twat who misses the whole point of learning a martial art (usually kick boxers )
oh and ignore all the "we don't resort to violence" crap thats just to keep the lawyers away.

I studied Shao-Lin long fist, some Chi-Na (grappling and wrist locks/breaking stuff) and Aikido for a bit. All before I had back surgery and spent a fucking year in bed. I always want to take it up again, but most of the schools around me are that American Studio of Self Defence bullshit. The McDonalds of kung-fu. I had a really great Sifu I used to work with ...and now I've move away I've never cut a tree with my katanas, but I've cut up some serious apples and watermelons.

I took Shaolin Do for about three years. Its sounds the same as the Long Fist version in the previous post. But, anyways my sensi was the kind of guy that said " You dont block it and get it hurt its your fault, you signed the paper saying you understand it" So we practiced almost full contact all the time. I enjoyed it. I have had a cracked shin (guy moved and I caught a metal pole), two dislocated shoulders, each one once, and misc broken bones in my feet. I did however, break a nose, crack ribs, and dislocate a knee. The guy in class was a twat and thought he was bad cause he was like 10 years older then me. I beat him up so bad one night he quit. My Sensi thanked me. I think the funniest thing, was one night we were going to test, I looked at my buddy and was like "Do an inside cresant kick" he tried and fell flat on his back and about 20 parents laughed their butt off.
But, I loved my sensi cause he let us fight full contact or whatever and he joined in most the time. I enjoyed fighting, the little kids were chickens LOL .. anyways seems like I have rambled long enough.
