I've been looking for a program that can convert mp3/wav files into cda files, but I don't want to actually burn the cda files to a cd, I want to save them on my hard drive.
Any idea as to where I can get such a program? I've had no luck finding it yet.

Well if you want the story: I play CS I don't like how CS doesn't have background music, music keeps me from getting really pissed off while playing (you know how it is). I played some music on winamp but it blocked all the sounds CS was supposed to make - soundcard problem, something about half and full duplex.
I'm not going to get a better soundcard, instead I've decided to create LCD images on my computer of my favourite MP3s converted to CDA format- This works by: You take a program that can emulate a cd on your computer, you create an image by dragging and dropping files, now I need these to be CDA so it recognizes them as CD audio files and plays them through the CD audio channel instead of the wave output channel.
So I need to get CDAs on my computer so I can create an img, in turn be able to have 'music cds' which are actually located on my hard drive playing so I can hear both music and gun fire, pain, walking, and other sounds generated by CS.

why not use some disk mastering software to make a cd image from your audio source and then put the image into a virtual cd-rom drive in daemon tools?

Well see, here's the problem: CDA files arn't actually music files, they're markers. They are on the CD as a way of telling the player when one track starts, but if you copy the .cda files to your hard disk all you'll get is the marker, not the sound.
You'll have to burn a music cd if you want music in the background, i fear.

uh here is a simpler solution--change winamp to wav-out instead of directsound. problem solved.

For some reason, both plugins block other sounds from playing anyways... I think I know why though, I'll have to test something.
I did burn one CD though, and I guess it was worth it because my playing experience is just kickass now.
veistran I don't understand what you mean, care to explain?

Well, if I remember correctly the implementation of wav out on win2k is actually a wrapper around the directsound output api. (I could be wrong (no shit.))

OR you could get around this problem by using an external cd player?

make an iso, bin and cue or such (a disk image) with some cd mastering software (e.g. disc juggler) and load the image into a virtual cd-rom with daemon tools (link)
