Following what editor wrote about non, I thought I'd make this post. It might run sort of long, but bear with me.

I've been with DetNet quite a while...my original account (syf0n) was registered May of 2000. That's much longer than some have been around...and much less than others. I have acted many ways, had many aliases, and said many things -- even though most of those were lost when I was banned the first time. Anyhow, I consider the time I have been a member a long enough period to make a reasonable judgement about what's going on.

Since Kevin bought the site, a lot of things have happened...some for the worse, some for the better. However, DetNet was never really just a site to me,  because (with the excepton of Jason) I talked to the guys who ran the site on a daily basis...Chase (RenegadeSnark) and David (porn_dealr) and another kid (Mattimeo) and I were all pretty good friends. DetNet (and Playnet in general) gave us a good reason to keep in contact, and we were generally a pretty tight group...the forums sort of supplemented that.

Playnet collapsing and Jason leaving has changed a lot of things...but mostly, it's made evident two things to me:

1.) cr0bar is DetNet.
2.) DetNet can't be run by a newbie, regardless of how good his intentions are.

I don't think I have to go into much detail on either of those two points...Jason made detnet the way it was, the feeling -- beyond the colors and the code, it was cheery and witty because of him. When he sold it, suddenly the colors changed...but more than that, there's a great hole in this site where something used to be, and no amount of coding or coloring is going to fix it. The reason for that was the enormous creative power inside Jason's head, which I don't think exists the same way for Kevin. I started getting a lot of ICQs from the old skooler folks about how lame everything had become...

Please don't read me wrong. This site could become quite the hangout again, and I hope it does! I just feel that Kevin isn't the guy to handle the job for old skool folks like me, and the skills that have been offered up haven't been utilized. Hell; I would have finished through with what I did, but I lost all my data to a hard drive crash. I have just decided that the domain name isn't what made it special.

So...my options being to accept the new DetNet or become a memory of the old one, I've decided it's time to drift back into the rest of the internet, and see where I get washed...

Y'all have been great people. Good luck to all of you, even Rhydant and Spydir, who I can already imagine writing flaming responses to this! Mad props especially to the old skool DetNet crew: nester, kl1nk, v0id, hellraz0r, liney, ch1ckee, taz-r, cannibal, caseman, lordbrandon, eng_man, anztac, and anyone I forgot (like linkDJ :D ). The summer of 2000 was great fun, with late night antics in the chat room and IRC stats and everything -- that was the shit that made my day.

And now, I'll close this the way I do every goodbye ;)

Leaves are falling all around,
It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.

But now it's time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And it's headed my way.

I have also desided a similar thing for myself. Although i considered my self an old schooler i guess syf0n never did.
This is what i sent Kevin last night.

I have decided an extended leave of detonate.net is needed by me. This is nothing you did nor anything someone did on the forums, this is a personal thing. I do not have the same reasons as non, this is personal I need to refocus myself and my life and right now the forums are something I do not want to deal with. I need to be focused on college and focused on putting my life back together. This is like I said nothing you did but rather something I need to do. I may post on the forums from time to time but no where as frequently as I have been lately. Please don't try to dissuade me of this decision it is mine to make. You have been a good friend and I am thankful you and the forumites were around to help me when I needed you. What I am going to tell you is that I am not really in a healthy mental state right now and detnet is to much of a distraction, it may not seem like much but for an internet addict like myself I need to put distance between me and some of my obsessions, this is not the only forum I am leaving I am leaving 4 but your the only one I am emailing to tell of my decision. When one spends more than 13 hours a day surfing the net something is not. I am more messed up than would appear from my text. The only thing I ask is that you not talk about this on the forums or mention it in any posts unless someone emails you and asks, I don't want to burden everyone. You don't have to be concerned over my welfare I have lots of people looking out for me in the real world. I promised my family I wouldn't do anything rash and I intend on keeping that promise. I have decided not to continue the map project, spydir expressed interest in taking my place and I think he is quite capable. Do not take this as a personal offense to you this is about me, I have no problem with you or your management/ownership of detnet in fact I am glad you replaced cr0bar (as oposed to another less caring person), I am sure anyone else would not be anywhere as committed to the cause. Well I wish you luck in your endeavor and I wish you all the luck in the world. I will be in contact via email if you need to talk. I also hope that you don't lose heart, that would be unnecessary. I just need to refocus I will be back in time.

-End of email

I guess to me detnet was cr0bar to me also and it hasn't been the same without him. I am sure kbreak will make a good admin/owner but i to be frank wish it was the way it used to be. I know that can never be again and so i have chosen to move on and to move in a difernt direction with my life. I hope you all that a good night.

I always knew that Richard would surprise me someday, just not in this way.  Perhaps some will be happy, but I wonder what he could have done here.

Ic0n0, it just hurts to see you go. hurts.

good luck to you both.

This is LinkDJ, i just dont have a valid email or password attached to my account. So here I go.

Was it ever the website? I never thought so. Sure, the website was cool and all, but the day that #detnet was started, the 15 of us gathered in there, and secretly detached from the website. An entity not unlike the website from which we spawned, but wholly different.

It was a mindset, a way of life, a group of people that didn't exist in my normal life. People like me.

I can't quit the forums, because I was really never a part of them. I'm a loser, and i still dont have enough free time, nor the desire, to troll forums. Not to say anything bad about those who do, I just prefer something more, realtime. Its ironic that im calling EFnet realtime, but thats not important. the important thing is that I'm really a woman.

I think I've made my point.

detonate.net is still here, but it's soul was lost when it switched hands.

no offense meant editor, but you aren't exactly cr0bar.

IMHO, you are too talkative and you spend too much time posting on the forums and not enough getting content organized.

Sir? May I recommend I load myself into the reverse-thrust tubes and you use my body as decoy-fodder? This will, of course leave me splattered across deep space and unable to complete today's laundry, for which I apologise in advance.

well instead of taking the all high and mighty attitude that everyone here seems to be taking the posts above me are in my opinion a load of bollox. if you're gonna go just go you don't have to make a song and dance about it! erm dysdoria ed is in full time employment unlike cr0 was who was always trying to get hold of money. his page gets to number 1 slot in google ya think he has all the time in the world to spend on this site?! these kind of posts piss me off cos it just puts stupid ideas into peoples heads that they "think" they should leave too.

i didn't say that DKB.

if you read my post again, it says that Ed spends too much time on the forums.

and seriously, its been what, 2 months now since Detnet changed hands and it's pretty much the same content.

that's why people have been leaving.

Strangely after crobar sold the site it seems like detonate.net gets about 1/10 of the traffic it used to. I used to check the site almost everyday to see what kind of goofy/interesting story crobar had managed to round up on the front page. How long has detonate.net been "dead" now??? Im too lazy to try to remember.

I remember when syfon got banned. He had posted some info about crobar that crobar did not want posted. He also got snuffed after a dispute with veteran Jim, but Jim made him eat his words posting actual transcripts from icq about how syfon was just trying to get a reaction out of people. Syfon was banned, then snuck back in under a different name and played pretty for a few months. Now it seems that detonate has been a bit weakened and he is waving his wand again. Ban him again now or later, it probably wouldnt matter....
