So. What do you do as a hobby in your spare time when you're not at work/school or on the computer? Or is there no life outside computers?

Me, I build/paint/play Warhammer 40k, a wargame played with miniature soldiers and tanks.

A life- I remember what that was a long time ago. Since Ive been in college for the last four freakin years it has eaten ALL my free time. What free time I do have is spent at the library studying or working on something school related. However I do enjoy reading (cause I do that A LOT) and traveling (which I don't get to do a lot of but wish I did) and that boyfriend thing ended for me about two months ago (and if you want to see how that worked out just look at my grrls SUCK thread)Oh well so much for having fun.

university consumes most of my free time. apart from that, i do anything i can to get out of the house. i love sailing, camping, partying with friends and pubs/bars, playing music (guitar, piano, trumpet) and driving. if i need extra $$$, i also design websites and stuff. as for the bf thing, i don't have much time for it. just usually find alternatives.

if you need to "waste" all your time and money, a significant other will do that just fine. it'd probably help to alleviate any lingering cases of tennis elbow, too. the down side is not having *any* time or money to spend with the computer. sacrifices, sacrifices...

i'm modifying this to actually include my hobbies:
losing soccer games
getting stomped in everything other than rts on the 'puter
avoiding speeding tickets
reading vidal books
and working. lots of working.

Well, I love reading... I'm trying to build up my library so this ties in with *sigh* looking for some old books at ebay (can't visit the second hand book shops when working ) I devote some time to mudding... Oh! I love going to the gym! If I had my way, I'd be a gym junkie And, thanks to the bf's & his friend's re-awakening interest in bush walking and camping, I may just be able to add that to the list Now all I have to do is acquire a half decent camera so I can take that up as well! Oh, yeah, and sleeping and eating. mmmmm.... hungry...

I guess I count myself lucky that I can do all the above with my bf. (except for the gym) The only angst I have is that sometimes he gets too engrosed in mud. Then, I either sulk a bit or read or sit next to him and contribute but he'll be acquiring another computer soon so...he'll have two! Sometimes though, I'll rave about a book, no response, later, if someone else recommends it, Have you got/read book X? Y told me it was really good. *snicker* I have had to put a halt on him spending money tho... His toys are all so expensive! He can't have a new computer and a new camera (or accessories) within the same year or six months. I have put my foot down. *stomp*

Anyway... gotta forage...

Lets see: Reading, Reading, Reading, biking, swimming, sailing, model ships and aeroplanes, collecting music, all in the meager 2 or 3 hours a day not spent in front of the computer/at school/working/eating/sleeping/watching TV. I read about 200-500 pages a day, usually go through about 5 or 6 good sized books each week, so that's definitely my biggest hobby. I also spend at least an hour biking because I ride my bike back and forth to work (7 miles). It keeps me from looking like Fat Boy Jim . I used to play guitar a lot, and even sing, but that has kinda slacked off with college taking up my time. Whenever my family goes camping I always come too, I love the outdoors. I used to live in NH, with over 30 square miles of forest behind my house that I knew like the back of my hand, but we moved to Philly PA, and I have nothing but houses as far as I can see: it sucks. Ah, well.

Hum... let's see, a list of some kind would be in order...

  • PC-games (BG: SC, HL: TFC & CS, Q1-TF, Thief, Sims etc...)
  • Fantasybooks (The Lord Of The Rings, The Wheel Of Time, The Deathgate Cycle)
  • RPGs: VTM
  • LARP (mostly fantasy)
  • heavy metal music

BTW, does anyone here LARP? I'm newbie larper (& RolePlayer) and could use an advice or 2.
