I was cleaning off some old zips and I came across pics of my old computer room.

If there were a magazine dedicated to wonderful geek landscapes, I think this would be the centerfold. Now I got a bunch of pics of my servers in Exodus and other datacenters where all the wires are neatly tied up and the matching one and two rack unit servers are in matching branded cabinets running in nice redundant clusters, but it’s not the same. These two pics contain computers running thirteen different operating systems that were in full production and being pieced together on the fly. Keeping it all running was more of an art then a science. And since there was little in the way of parts available for some of the older DEC stuff you had to get creative a lot of the time. It was a true playground for the digital enthusiast. Sometimes I miss all the chaos. Anybody else got pics and stories of the battlefield they call work? They don’t necessarily have to be tech related, maybe the ER, a prison, or even the Hot Dog on a Stick during the noon rush.

I haven't worked in that room in three years. When I first opened up that pic I was like "what the hell is this crap" and then I looked closer and said "damn! I used to work in that mess". I remember the day we counted up all the different OS builds (13 ..just about everything but OS/2 or any Apple) and couldn't believe there were so many together in the same room. It was like the computer UN.
