I was just thinking in the shower this morning (thats where i get all my bright thoughts)... Remember the whole big fuss about how m$ was integrating ie with winbloze, and how that was killing the competition for other browsers? well, winXP comes with integrated cd burning from the explorer shell (rightclick, send to CD drive), image previewer, movie maker, firewall, outlook express... i wonder if nero or adaptec kicked up a fuss about that cd-burning thing? or if any of the firewall dudes had anything to say about the built-in firewall.however, i don't really think that its such a bad thing. if i was a total n00b who just bought a computer with a cd writer, i'd expect that i could copy stuff to it just by dragging and dropping like any other drive. i think that this time, they've actually built a proper operating system. i mean, if i bought a cheapo cd-writer which didn't come with any s/w, why should i have to go and download or pay for software in order to use it? they should also get credit for catering for the gay community with their new interface /me thinks he should shut up now

I betcha most of these new "integrated features" are actually licensed from companies like Roxio...Company: Hey MS, your integrated foobar is going to wreck our market! MS: (hands company a briefcase full of unmarked bills) Company: My bad. MS is not stupid, and they are no stranger to "absorbing" 3rd-party products. (e.g. MS Project came from Visio, Frontpage came almost whole from another company, even IE was based off the ancient Mosaic codebase). And I have a feeling TaxMax is right too - some of the integrated things are probably crippled or have features disabled, to create a market for "upgrades." (cf. crippled Photoshop versions that come with scanners...)
